The presence of certain groups of plants in one area can be partially predicted using the minimum value of temperature in the area. With respect to the minimum value, the temperature scale is divided into 11 zones.
On the image below, you can see a range of minimum temperatures for each zone. For example, in zone 11 the minimum value of the temperature ranges between +4 and +10 ° C. On the other side, zone 1 has minimum temperatures ranging between -45 and - 51 ° C.
Most of the plants described on these pages, grow well in zones 6, 7 and 8, although some of the plants can be found even in higher or lower zones. You can see the zone distribution on the pictures below: North America: Additional maps for other areas can be found here.
